Začetki duhovne oskrbe Slovencev na Dunaju segajo v 19. stoletje, vendar se je redno dušnopastirsko delo za Slovence na Dunaju začelo šele leta 1960, ko je p. Ivan Tomažič CMF začel z rednimi nedeljskimi in prazničnimi svetimi mašami pri klarentincih, v Bennogasse, v 7. okraju.

Prvi duhovnik za Slovence na Dunaju, nastavljen z dekretom, je bil Alojz Sterle, ki je prišel iz Amerike. Na Dunaju je deloval tri leta in v tem času so se Slovenci zbirali v bolnišnični cerkvi Elisabethkirche, v 3. okraju.

Za njim je duhovno oskrbo Slovencev na Dunaju na prošnjo dunajske nadškofije ponovno prevzel p. Tomažič in Korotan je postal zbirno mesto vernih Slovencev.
Leta 1982 je bil za dušnega pastirja v dunajski nadškofiji imenovan Štefan Alojzij Ferenčak SDB. Zaradi neustreznosti prostora za bogoslužje v Korotanu je takoj poiskal novo lokacijo za zbiranje Slovencev. Nadškofija mu je ponudila nekdanjo župnijsko cerkev Srca Jezusovega z ustreznimi prostori za pisarno in stanovanjem za duhovnika ter pisarno za socialno delavko, na Einsiedlergasse 9-11, v 5. okraju. Ker je v stanovanju živel še hrvaški frančiščkan p. Mirko Mataušić, ki je oskrboval nemško govorečo rektoratsko skupnost, je p.

Ferenčak lahko prevzel cerkev, pastoralne prostore in stanovanje šele 13. marca 1983 in s tem tudi nemško govorečo rektoratsko skupnost, kar pa je pomenilo tudi redno bogoslužje za nemško govoreče vernike.

Center so poimenovali SLOVENSKI PASTORALNI CENTER, kar pomeni, da ne gre zgolj za versko oskrbo, ampak za celostno versko, kulturno in socialno ponudbo rojakom iz matične domovine in koroškim Slovencem.
Poleg rednega bogoslužja, je center nudil tudi možnost udeležbe v raznih pevskih, glasbenih in drugih skupinah.
V letih 1987 in 1988 so v kletnih prostorih, predvsem s prostovoljnim delom, uredili večjo dvorano in kavarno, ki služi druženju po bogoslužjih in prireditvah.
